- Be familiar with LA guidance and policy and attend relevant training.
- Ensure the board of governors puts in place a suitable safeguarding and child protection policy and associated procedures which is regularly reviewed.
- Champion safeguarding and child protection issues within the school.
- Encourage other members of the board of governors to develop their understanding of the board of governors child protection responsibilities.
- Meet regularly (at least termly) with the senior member of the school’s leadership team who is the designated teacher for safeguarding to monitor the effectiveness of the safeguarding policy and speed of referral.
- Ensure that the board of governors receives a termly report on the implementation of the school’s safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Be aware of who the designated teacher is for the child protection and whether he or she has attended appropriate training.
- Ensure that child protection matters are a termly item on the board of governors agenda (for example, any changes to the child protection policy or the number of incidents or cases).
Ensure that:
- The school has a child protection policy and procedures in place.
- All staff working in the school receive induction about child protection procedures and training appropriate to their role and responsibilities.
- The school has an anti-bullying and single equalities policy in place.
- The school carries out appropriate security checks on all staff and volunteers.
- All staff are familiar with the referral process and who is the designated safeguarding teacher.
